SKODA’S BEST-SELLING SUV TO GET NEW CHEAPER VARIANT
Skoda’s entry into the biggest segment in the market, the sub 4 metre SUV class, has begun to pay dividends. The new Brand Director Ashish Gupta spoke to Express Drives explaining how the Kylaq sales have pushed the company from rank 11th to rank 7th and aims to grow its market share to 2.5 –3% in FY2026. He further told us that the Czech Republic automotive manufacturer wants to make automatic transmission cars affordable for everyone.
As a matter of fact, the Kylaq automatic is the most affordable non AMT vehicle in the market beating the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Mahindra 3XO. To bring some serious disruption in the SUV segment, according to Carwale, Skoda is currently planning to introduce a more affordable Kylaq variant that is expected to be slotted between the Classic and Signature trims.
New more affordable Kylaq variant in the wings
The Kylaq is available in following variants staring from the Classic, Classic Gold Olive, Signature, Signature dual tone, Signature Plus, Signature Plus in Lava Blue and then the Prestige. The price starts from Rs 8.25 lakh to Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The new variant could come in-between the two entry-level variants as there’s a price gap of around Rs 1.60 lakh, ex-showroom. The new variant is expected to make its debut sometime this year.
The upcoming Kylaq variant will be packed with features like six airbags, ABS, traction control system, ISOFIX child seats, LED headlights with LED DRLs, crystalline LED tail lamps and may borrow some equipment from the Signature variant like tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, a 7-inch infotainment system with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Skoda Kylaq engine specifications
The Kylaq is powered by the 1-litre turbo petrol engine with an output of 114 bhp at 5,000 – 5,500 rpm and 178 Nm at 1,750 – 4,000 rpm. The Classic trim is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission while the Signature offers the additional 6-speed automatic torque converter version. The new upcoming model also offer the automatic option.
